Mr. Frey has participated in intellectual property litigation in U.S. district courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Supreme Court, the International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His background is in both electrical engineering, with a Ph.D. From the University of California, Berkeley (in electrical engineering), and in law, with a J.D.. from the Georgetown University Legal Center.
In his legal career, he has overseen all aspects of litigation in district courts, and has found his technical experience of particular use in assisting experts, in overseeing claim construction proceedings, technical deposistions, the preparation and presentation of arguments for Markman hearings; written briefs and petitions for Federal Circuit appeals and writs of certiorari. When still a professor of electrical engineering Mr. Frey served as an expert witness in several patent cases involving integrated circuit and computer technology.
Mr Frey’s clients have included WiLAN Inc., (WiFi and wireless phones); France Brevets (NFC communications); LM Ericsson (power converters; wireless communications); Chrimar Systems (Power over Ethernet technology); and Medtronic (spinal implant technology).
